Walk Worthy of Your Calling – The Do and Don’t of Ephesians Chapter 4

Walk Worthy of Your calling

As I studied Ephesians 4 this morning, I was amazed at the clear direction God gives us for living through the apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.    This letter written to encourage the faithful believers, presents a clear picture of the do’s and don’ts  of the Christian life.  The list is not meant to hem us in or give us a bunch of rules.  It is meant help us lead others to Christ and give us the fullness of God because nothing else will ever satisfy us.    Here is the list :

(If I missed, one add it as a comment!  We don’t want to miss anything!)

Do: Reference in Ephesians 4

Show humility Verse 2

  • Clamor
  • Slander
  • Malice
Verse 31
Be kind to one another Verse 32

 Now for the Don’ts!

Don’t Reference in Ephesians 4
Don’t be as children tossed around by

  • the winds of changing doctrine
  • the trickery of men
  • by craftiness
  • by deceitful scheming
Verse 14
Don’t walk in the futility of the mind Verse 17
Don’t be darkened in understanding Verse 18
Don’t be excluded from a life of God because of ignorance that is in non-believers because of the hardening of their hearts Verse 18
Don’t be influenced by the actions of unbelievers who

  • have become callousness
  • given themselves over to sensuality
  • are practicing every kind of impurity with greediness
Verse 19
Don’t let the sun go down on your anger Verse 26
Don’t give the devil an opportunity Verse 27
Don’t steal anymore if you were stealing in your life before salvation Verse 28
Don’t let any unwholesome words come from your mouth Verse 29
Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit Verse 30

Now we know how we are to live. Knowing doesn’t make it easy, but it does give us clarity and purpose.   We all will strive, we all will fail but we all will also be blessed by our Father in Heaven through Christ Jesus if we try our best to walk worthy of our calling!

For more insight into the Christian life as Jesus saw it check out: The Sermon on the Mount in Mathew 5 and Mathew 6.  You can also find direction in Mathew 24:35 and 36 and James Chapter 1.  Of course the entire New Testament is loaded with examples, advice and ways to experience the fullness of God!
