Wednesdays Five Tips for Single Moms:

Bananas A great snack for single Moms in a hurryFor many the most rewarding yet toughest job you will ever do is being a mother.  But when you are doing it alone, the days and money seem shorter and the chore list longer.  You wear many hats and sometimes you just don’t know what to do.  Here are 5 quick tips to help you get a little peace:

  1. Stop beating yourself up:  Look in the mirror right now and say five times, “I am doing the best I can, the rest is up to Jesus!”
  2. Take 10:  When you are stressed, your feet hurt and the dinner is burning, take 10 minutes to be completely alone.  Give the kids a coloring book tell them the one that colors every space on the page with at least 5 colors wins and makes zero noise wins!  Go into the bathroom, sit on the toilet pray.  If you are too tired to even pray, just sing the childhood song “Jesus love me.” Don’t know that one?  Learn it now!
  3. Prepare for the morning:  Get as much as you can ready to go the night before or even on the weekend.  On Sunday evening, pick out all the clothes the kids and even you will need for the week.  Stack them in 5 piles and they are ready to go every morning.  Pack lunches, put shoes by the door, and make sure backpacks are handy.  If you have holder kids, set a time for them to do this every Sunday evening.  This is a habit that will aid them all their life.
  4. Bananas are you best friend, keep them near at all times:  They fit in your purse, don’t need a Tupperware container and most kids love them.  They even are a great snack for you at work or on the road.  At home, they stave off hungry kids till you can get dinner.
  5. Get under a throw with a cup of hot tea:  There is a reason people give you tea to calm you down.  It works.  Be sure if it is after 7 it’s herbal, but the smell, the warmth, the experience relaxes you.  Try it once and see.

Have a great week and remember “children are a gift from God”  hmmmm
