5 Ways to Remain in God’s Love

5 Ways to Remain in God's Love“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.  Now remain in My love.”  John 15:9 Jesus’ simple statement in the 9th verse of chapter 15 of the book of John gives us great instruction on how to live our life.  It is so simple it becomes hard to really comprehend.  God, the Father’s love is unfailing (Isaiah 54:10) and always for the good of you and the world.   In verse 11 (John 15:11) of the same chapter, he tells us remaining in God’s love brings us “Joy Complete”.

But how do we remain in the love of Jesus in our crazy busy world?  Here are  5 ways you can do each day.  Don’t expect to be perfect, none of us will ever be perfect,  but these will move you closer to the love Jesus intended to bring us Joy each and every day.

  1. Read Scripture EVERY day.  I know that sounds hard and you will likely say there is not time, but find 5 minutes somewhere.   Try it for 7 days, I dare you!  This will change your life.  The more you are in God’s Word, the more you will long to be in God’s Word. You can start with these:   7 Scriptures to start your walk
  2. Meditate on the Scripture you read:  Take one key verse and think about what it really means.  Ponder it, chew on it, let the words drift around in your head all day.  What is God saying to you?  Let the Holy Spirit lead you.
  3. Serve Others:  Doing something for someone else shows the world Jesus through you.  This doesn’t have to be complicated or big.  It can be as simple as making a special breakfast for your children or husband, sending a card to someone or even just letting the person in line at the grocery store with only one item go ahead of you.  Just do something for someone else.
  4. Pray:  Spend a few minutes each day having a conversation with God.  Thank him for a blessing in your life, cryout to Him, praise him just get a conversation going.   If you don’t  know what to pray, go to the model Jesus gives his disciples in Mathew 6: 9-14.  You can also pray Psalm 23.  inserting your name instead of My or I.  For example, The Lord is (YOUR NAME)’s shepherd I will not be in want. Psalm 23:1
  5. Stop doing something that you know is not honoring God:   It doesn’t have to be a sin in the typical sense, just something that is not elevating God or maybe doesn’t even involve God.  So many things we do each day are absent from anything spiritual.  An example could be a to stop watching a television show that may be on the border of appropriateness or yelling at your dog or your kids, or your spouse.  How about driving the speed limit instead of 5 miles over the limit?  It doesn’t really matter what it is, God will be pleased that you are making a sacrifice in His honor.

Remaining in God’s love touches and changes you.  It shows love to all the people around you.  Try it today, then post a comment to this blog and let us know how it affected you.  If you need 7 Scriptures for the week to start with, you can find them on the post 7 Scriptures to get you started thinking about God’s Word.  I am praying for each and every one of you and look forward to hearing how it goes!
