Genesis 4: What does your brand say to the world?

ImageBrands and slogans have become an integral part of our everyday culture.  Coke is the real thing, Visa is everywhere you want to be and McDonald’s says you deserve a break today.  Those slogan’s speak to our pleasure sensors, so we buy their product believing them to be true.  Maybe they are true, I don’t know.  I feel like I deserve a break but somehow it rings false to me that a Quarter Pounder with cheese is going to help me feel rested.  These companies, also work hard at their brand, which is visually recognized by the logo they sport.  We all know the golden arches from the highway and with that there is the comfort of knowing exactly what is on the menu, like it or not.

As far back as the story of man, God’s branding has been evident.  When God marked Cain as a sign of protection for all to see, in Genesis 4:15, He began to separate His own.  Even though Cain sinned, God did not forget that he still belonged to Him.  God marked others too as his own.  In Ezekiel 9:4, a unit of warriors go out to mark the foreheads of the people that are appalled by the practices of those following the Gods of the Babylonians and being absorbed by their culture.  In Exodus 9:4 God makes a distinction between the livestock of the Isrealites to protect them for the death of the Egyptian livestock as a result of Pharoh’s reluctance to let God’s people go.

Of course, Satan counterfiets God’s works and distorts them for his purpose.  In Revelation 13:16 -17 it is required that you have the mark of the beast to buy or sell anything. Satan always wants to be like God and always falls short, always!  The similarity of the two is only in the fact that it is visible to the world, believers and unbelievers alike.

My question today would be what does our brand show?   Can people look at us and know what’s on the menu every time?  Can the world get a glimpse of us and see God’s glory or is the world and all it’s temptations shining through?

I pray God turns his perfect mirror towards us today so we can see what He sees, what the world sees and what we may not.  I want to reflect the mark of the Holy One that freely gives eternal life.  How about you?
