This Little Light of Mine: Luke 1:66-80

This Little Light of MineThis Little Light of Mine, I’m going to make it shine!

Luke 1:66- 80

The people now realize John is going to be something special.  When they ask his father “What is this child going to be?” the Holy Spirit through Zachariah answers.  The Spirit is clear and concise, revealing that John will become a prophet.  He will prepare a way for the Lord.  John will give the people knowledge about salvation through forgiveness of sin.  John  will announces God’s mercy  and shine on people living in darkness and the shadow of death to point the way to the path of peace.

John’s quest is the same as ours.  As Christians, we are called to show our light and love to those in darkness and the shadow of death.  We have to live so that our life creates a desire so strong those needing Jesus are clamoring for the same.  Like John, we must lead people to the path of peace which is through the Prince of Peace.  We have to tell of God’s mercy that is achieved through admission and confession of sin.  Combine that with the desire to change our lives and you are blessed with forgiveness and a clean slate with God through Jesus.

Zachariah’s prophecy is a proclamation of the Good News, the gospel of Jesus Christ, told before he was even born.  Isaiah predicted John as well as Jesus in Isaiah 40:3A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”  Considering that was 700 years before this, it is pretty amazing!  I think it is important to note, these texts don’t share the gospel through judgment or condemnation, but through leading the way by example.  By telling as you walk the walk, even while in the wilderness.   Our journey should be so bright and so tempting, people run for whatever gives us our joy.

Today, think about how you can show your light so brightly that it works like a neon map shining in the darkness to Christ’s redemption.
